Die Amplitude ist die Auslenkung einer Welle um deren Mittelwert. Bei Schallwellen, ist dies das Ausmaß, mit der Luftteilchen ausgelenkt werden. Die Amplitude des Schalls bzw. Schallamplitude wird als Lautstärke empfunden. Die Amplitude einer Schallwelle wird in Bruchteilen eines Meters gemessen, z.B. 1µm (Mikrometer) = 0,000001 m.
