Die Oktave ist ein Intervall von acht Tönen, bei dem die Frequenz jedes Tons sich jeweils zum nächst höheren Ton verdoppelt. In der Raumakustik wird beispielsweise der Schallabsorptionsgrad eines Materials in den Oktavfrequenzen 125 Hz, 250 Hz, 500 Hz, 100 Hz, 2000 Hz usw. angegeben.
